Wuhan University (WHU) is a key comprehensive university directly under the administration of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, taking part in the national "985 Project" and "211 Project" designed for key universities. WHU's schools display a range of disciplines from Philosophy, Economics, Law, Education, to History, Science, Engineering, Agriculture, Medicine and Management. WHU offers Humanities, Social Sciences Studies, Science, Engineering, Information Science and Medical Sciences. Quality in higher education is not only a long tradition at WHU, but it is also backed by study and research facilities aimed to provide the practical aspect of the educational process. As an example, the Medical Sciences department has six University Affiliated Hospitals. Twenty eight (28) disciplines offer doctoral studies， five（5） disciplines are recognized as key disciplines and seventeen (17) subjects were identified as national key sub-disciplines.
WHU has four (4) key laboratories and two (2) national engineering research centers. At least five (5) national curricula are bilingual. WHU also prides itself with twelve (12) key laboratories at the level of the Ministry of Education. Five (5) engineering research centers are at the level of the Ministry of Education. There are seven (7) key bases for humanities and social sciences research at the level of the Ministry of Education and ten (10) national basis for basic scientific research and talents cultivation. These together with eight (8) centers for national experimental teaching demonstration and thirty six (36) key research bases at provincial and ministry level make WHU one of the best bases for study and academic development in China.

WHU's total enrollment of students amounts to 53,001, of which 1,433 are international students. There are 32,640 undergraduates, and 20,361 masters and Ph.D. candidates.
